Fire Door Safety Week: simple steps that help keep everyone safer

21 September 2026 - News
Fire Door Safety Week runs from 21 to 25 September 2026.
It’s a good reminder to check that fire doors are used properly and reported if something isn’t right.

A fire door helps slow the spread of fire and smoke. This helps protect escape routes, homes and shared areas.

Small actions make a difference, from keeping doors closed to keeping shared areas and balconies free of clutter.

What we’re doing

We’re investing more than ever in building and fire safety, improving how we manage risks, and keeping customers better informed about the work we’re doing.

We carry out regular fire risk assessments and fire door checks across our buildings. These checks help us spot and fix issues quickly.

Last year, we inspected 9,000 fire doors and invested £3.2m replacing them.

Kelly Rossington, Head of Fire Safety at A2Dominion, said: “Fire doors should be kept in good working order at all times. They are designed to automatically close behind you to hold back the spread of fire and toxic smoke in an emergency. Please report to us if you have concerns about any fire doors.”

How you can help
  • Keep fire doors closed. Please don’t wedge or prop them open.

  • Keep shared corridors, stairs and exits clear.

  • Tell us straight away if a fire door doesn’t close properly or is damaged.

  • Don’t repair, trim, drill into or change a fire door yourself.

  • Speak to us before fitting carpets, letterboxes, cat flaps or anything else that could affect how the door closes.

If you’re not sure whether something is a problem, please report it anyway. We’ll check it and let you know what happens next.
